Regional Forum on Solutions for Oceans, Coasts and Human Wellbeing in Africa
06.06.2016
Across our planet, multiple examples of inspiring 'blue solutions' which successfully help overcome challenges to sustainable development and human wellbeing in the marine and coastal realm can be found. The four-day Regional Forum in Zanzibar provided a platform for African practitioners and decision-makers involved in marine and coastal planning, management and governance for sustainable development to:
- Enable mutual learning and support knowledge transfer on experiences.
- Inspire participants and facilitate the adaptation of successful experiences towards the implementation of sustainable solutions in marine and coastal contexts.
Blue solutions are successful approaches that …
- address challenges to sustainable development and human wellbeing in the marine and coastal realm and contribute to maintaining or improving the status/health of biodiversity and ecosystems
- are effective and have been applied with a demonstrated impact
- are scalable with elements of your solution that have the potential for upscaling or replication in other contexts
marinecultures.org has been invited to the conference as a solution provider to present our blue solution. On top we provided a field trip to our sponge- and coral farms on the fourth day. It was an amazing success. Over all the forum was an exceptional opportunity for us to present our activities to the participiants and to see what others are doing on the African continent. As well we did a lot of networking and evaluated further regional and international funding opportunities and future partnerships.
