The farm facility has been holding up well. However, the growth of organisms on the nets has demonstrated that mesh larger than 1 centimeter prevent adequate provision of nutrients to the sponges. Because of this, many sponges have perished.
Where the mesh is larger than 2 centimeters, growth tends to be somewhat better, although the pressure of the net on the sponge from both sides presents an obstacle. Certain sponge species evade the pressure and grow through the nets, however this makes them unsuitable for successful cultivation.
